Tactical Firearms Firstaid Course
Level 3 Diploma for Security Industry First Aid Supervisors – (Team Medic)

Team Medics is a part of the Crown Medical Training Group, Derrick Sunley, who designed this course has a plethora of experience in the Police Tactical Firearms, Close Protection, Special Forces and PSU environments. The above course is not a course that has been written as a gut reflex to reports and recommendations that are being studied at this moment in time. It does however cover all subject matter as recommended by The Faculty of Pre Hospital Care and as laid out in the N.P.I.A Level 4 and 5 Modules. This is a tried and tested course that has evolved over a period of at least 10 years, during which time feed back has been listened to, and where needed acted upon. It has proved to build confidence in not only first aid but also in the teams operational capabilities. It is now also set as a level 3 course on the Learning Aims Database which gives successful candidates a Level 3 Vocationally Required Qualification (VRQ), therefore providing evidence for their Personal Development Records.

Training Venue
All though we have an excellent training venue in South Wales, we feel that for this particular course it is better for us to come to your own force area and training venues. We have learned through experience that each force has it own variations on tactics and also some forces may have to call upon the team in training for operational tasks or have candidates who have to attend court for a short period of time.

Course Delivery
We intentionally keep medical terminology and mnemonics to a bare minimum; we also recognise the fact that candidates are police officers first and first aiders second. This does not detract from the quality of training as we speak in a language the officers understand and they soon recognise the course is very job specific. The course is ideally set over 5 days with two days of class room delivery and three days of very job specific scenario’s, the first day of scenarios is based around RTC’s, street violence and domestics and then moves onto reactive searches both vehicle and building. At this stage we prefer to work alongside your own instructors to ensure your particular force tactics are adhered to, this also makes the course cost effective as there is a training bonus in that tactical training is covered alongside first aid, this part we believe is vital to ensure officers understand where and how first aid fits into the tactical environment. There is also a 5 hour individual study period which covers the tactical and medical risk assessment.

"The confidence levels of officers working within our tactical firearms team has been greatly enhanced by the medical training designed and delivered by Derrick Sunley of TEAM MEDICS We have had incidents where lives have been saved as a direct result of this training. Derrick’s unique approach of marrying medical training into our tactical training has opened up areas of thought to our instructors which will enhance the professionalism of our teams. I think Derrick's Special Forces tactical knowledge integrated with his specialist medical skill is the key to the success of these courses. This is one of the only courses that my officers give 100% feedback on and it is always of the highest level" - Hertfordshire Police Tactical Firearms Unit
