Private Security Detail (PSD)
AIM - This course is suitable for anyone working in hostile as opposed to remote environments. It has been written by instructors who have worked and carried out first aid under these conditions. We know and understand the shortfalls of conventional first aid courses when in hostile environments, we also understand not everyone comes from medical backgrounds and as such we talk in plain English and keep medical terminology to a minimum.
PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
It would be an advantage to have attended a first aid course before arriving on this course but not compulsory as we will take students through from basic level to at least Intermediate Life Support level and in some cases beyond this.
OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
• State the role of the tactical medic
• Define Scene Safety Management (Safety & Triage)
• Explain and demonstrate principles of infection control
• Summarise Post Incident Procedures
• Demonstrate a Patient Assessment (including Primary & Secondary Survey)
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills with
patients, colleagues and other emergency services
• Recognise respiratory problems in a patient
• Compare and discuss breathing difficulties
• List causes of obstructed airway
• Demonstrate basic and advanced airway management skills
• Perform Basic Life Support Skills
• Demonstrate the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on a casualty who is not breathing
• Identify Normal/Abnormal heart rhythms
• Discuss & Demonstrate various dressings for different types of wounds
• Demonstrate treatment of a casualty in shock
• Discuss & Demonstrate recognition & treatment of casualty’s with a variety of medical conditions e.g. Heart conditions, Asthma etc
• Identify recognition features of trauma injuries and demonstrate appropriate treatment
• State the importance of Spinal Immobilisation
• Demonstrate Spinal Management Skills
• Define the effects of a Chest Injury
• Demonstrate the treatment of Chest Injury
• Define the effects of Ballistic Trauma
• Assist the Tactical Advisor on all medical and health issues surrounding an operation.
Course length - 5 Days
SYLLABUS:
The Pre Hospital Environment, Triage & Safety, Medical & Tactics, Patient Examination, Basic Life Support, , Haemorrhage Management (Tourniquets, Haemostatic controls e.g. Quickclot), Medical Emergencies, Shock Management, F.A.S.T.1 fluid replacement device, Trauma Emergencies, Airway Management, Use of Defibrillation, Medical & Trauma Equipment, Ballistic Trauma, Chest Trauma, Emergency Extraction, , Environmental Factors,.
CERTIFICATION:

Level 3 QCA VRQ Diploma for Security Industry First Aid Team Leader (TEAM MEDIC )
HSE First Aid at Work
IHCD Royal College of Surgeons First Person on Scene Intermediate Award
COSTS:
£500 (ex vat) per person (Open Course)
£3750 (ex Vat) Group up to 12 (Held at our training centres or the customers training premises)
